| Retiral of Tim Ryrie: June 2014 |
| I first arrived at Ardrossan Academy in August 1967, having previously been at Largs High and Fairlie Primary. I spent a mainly enjoyable 4 years before leaving to go to Glasgow University in 1971. My return to the Academy was in August 1976 as a young, enthusiastic? newly qualified Physics Teacher joining a department headed by Sandy Morrison in a school which had doubled in population from my previous time there. It was a bit of a culture shock to begin with. Sandy had a unique style of leadership but it was a good department to be in. Over the years we introduced many new ideas and I tried to continue this approach when I became PT in 1995. My retirement this summer means the end of 38 years at the school. During this time I have encountered many changes to the school and the curriculum. Some of these have been problematic and others quite smooth but through them all colleagues have shown great commitment and a desire to make things work. Throughout all my time in Ardrossan our main focus in Science has been to deliver the best possible experience we can for the pupils. As I leave I will be sorry to say good bye to many friends and I will miss some excellent 'social events' but I certainly won't miss that telephone call at 8.40 in the morning to say 'Can you cover Teacher X's class period Y'! I have no grand plans for my retirement, but I will be able to decide when I want to do things and where I want to go without the constraints of school terms. My grand daughter may place other limitations on this of course! Tim Ryrie |
